David Collopy was born in Wexford where he studied Accountancy before joining the Wexford Festival Opera in 1980 as Administrator, a position he held for five years. After Wexford, he joined a London-based design consultancy firm as Financial Controller. In 1985 he became the first Administartor and Company Secretary with the new Dublin Grand Opera Society Company; in this capacity he continued to administer the Society’s opera productions and seasons. In 1988 he was seconded on a temporary basis to RTE as Concerts Manager.
