It is worth noting too that Sam Mooney, the popular Dublin baritone, once came to the society’s rescue in the winter season of ’51 when Ernest Davies, who was singing Ferrando in “Trovatore”, became suddenly ill. Mooney took over without a rehearsal and acquitted himself admirably.
