Mary Sheridan received very good notices for her acting and singing as Nicklause in “Hoffmann”, though she told me later that the show really belonged to Jon Piso who sang the title role. ‘He was terrific,’ she says, ‘singing with typical elegance and style. As an artist he was one of the best to sing with the society at this time.’ Ann Moran won praise for her singing of the Doll’s Song, but Mary MacGoris was far from pleased with Paddy Ring’s ‘harlequin costume’ and stated that ‘he stood out like a sore thumb. ‘
